The National Civil Rights Research & Records Institute
The National Civil Rights Research & Records Institute is a non-partisan, research-driven institution dedicated to documenting civil rights conditions across the United States. We combine public records, structured research, and community-centered data collection to build a permanent, evidence-based national civil rights record.
We operate with a single guiding principle: truth strengthens justice. Our work supports communities, policymakers, researchers, and government agencies seeking accurate, reliable, and ethically collected civil rights information.
Why the Institute Was Created
Civil rights enforcement depends on accurate information — yet much of the nation’s civil rights landscape remains undocumented, inaccessible, or inconsistently recorded. The Institute exists to close this gap.
- Document civil rights conditions across cities and regions
- Strengthen public access to records that shape civil rights enforcement
- Provide research that supports evidence-based policymaking
- Build a national archive that preserves community experiences
- Support cities and agencies in understanding local civil rights challenges
